Rajasthan has emerged as a very popular tourist destination in India for both domestic and foreign tourists. The number of tourists visiting the state has increased fourfold in the last 30 years and in 2001. The state is famous for its diversity in terms of natural resources, cultural heritage, historical, archaeological wonders and rare wildlife. Colourful fairs and festivals, forts and palaces, heritage hotels, local arts and handicrafts, versatile cultural traditions etc. attract tourists coming to Rajasthan. The desert environment in the western parts of the state is also a major attraction for visitors, especially foreign tourists.
A unique character of tourism in Rajasthan is the development of tourist circuits instead of single destinations. 10 tourist circuits have been identified by the Department of Tourism, Rajasthan. These places are also popular as standalone destinations. These circuits are as follows:-
  01 - Desert Circuit (Deer Circuit- Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer)
⇎ The Desert Circuit includes the popular tourist destinations of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner. Barmer and Nagaur are other places that are fast becoming a part of the desert circuit tour. The Desert Circuit also includes other places like Ajmer, Pushkar and Merta.
⇎ This circuit has become popular among both foreign and domestic tourists. The Desert Circuit is a part of the vast Thar Desert and the sand dunes spread across the region are its special feature. The climate here remains hot and dry for most of the year except the monsoon period. The tourist season here lasts from October to March.
  02 - Mewar Circuit (Udaipur, Chittaurgarh, Rajsamand, Nathdwara, Kumbhalgarh, Dungarpur, Jaisamand)

  03 - Vagad Circuit (Dungarpur-Banswara)
⇎ The Vagad Circuit presents a blend of tribal culture and history. Though a separate circuit in itself, Udaipur (Mewar Circuit) is often the centre of this circuit. Other major tourist destinations in this circuit are Baneshwar, Dev Somnath, Arthuna, Galiakot and Mahi Dam.
⇎ This circuit is relatively unknown due to its proximity to the popularity of the nearby Mewar Circuit. The Vagad region is located at the southern tip of the Aravalli range and lies on the Rajasthan Gujarat border.
⇎ The region extends from forested and rugged terrain in the north-east to alluvial soil in the south-west. The climate of the region remains pleasant for most part of the year except the summer months from April to June. Tourist activity is high during the months of September to March.

  04 - Dhundhar Circuit (Jaipur-Dausa-Tonk)
⇎ The Dhundhar Circuit is spread around Jaipur and is known for its rich combination of history, culture, architecture and religion. Apart from Jaipur, the destinations include. These places can generally be covered by a day trip from Jaipur. The Dhundhar Circuit is located among the northern Aravalli ranges and close to the Sambhar Basin.
⇎ The climate of the region is extremely hot during the peak summer months of April-June. As a result, the peak tourist season here is from September to March. Being the capital and the main gateway to the state, Jaipur and other regions also receive some tourist arrivals during the holiday months. The circuit is very popular among foreign and domestic tourists.
⇎ The main attractions of the Dhundhar Circuit are palaces, forts and museums. Apart from this, Jaipur is also known for art and handicrafts and many festivals.

  05 - Godavar Circuit (Mount Abu-Ranakpur)
⇎ The Godavar Circuit includes Mount Abu which is the only hill station in Rajasthan. The beautiful temple town of Ranakpur is the other important attraction of the circuit. Mount Abu is a very popular holiday destination among tourists coming from Gujarat, while Ranakpur is famous among both domestic and foreign tourists. Another destination in the circuit is the simple Rajasthani town of Jalore, which is relatively unknown by tourists.
⇎ Although Mount Abu is a part of the Aravalli range, it is completely separated from it by a narrow valley and the highest point Guru-Shikhar is situated at its northern end. The place also has the richest vegetation of Rajasthan.
⇎ Being the only hill station in the state, Mount Abu is popular as a summer retreat, and the tourist season runs from February to June and the holiday period from September to December. Nearby are the famous Dilwara Jain Temples, famous for their exquisite stone carvings.

  06 - Merwara-Marwar Circuit (Ajmer-Pushkar Circuit)
⇎ The Merwara-Marwar Circuit is the hub of pilgrim activities in Rajasthan. Ajmer and Pushkar are important pilgrimage centers for tourists from all over India. Pushkar is internationally renowned for the 'Annual Camel Fair' held in November.
⇎ The Red Fair attracts a large number of foreign tourists. The circuit is located in the plains of Sambhar. The tourist season is fairly uniform throughout the year, though the inflow of tourists is very high during the annual Urs in Ajmer and the Pushkar Fair.

  07 - Brij Mewat Circuit (Alwar-Sariska-Bharatpur-Sawai Madhopur)
⇎ The Brij Mewat Circuit is very famous among wildlife lovers. This circuit is also famous for historical places and archaeologically important sites. This circuit is famous in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
⇎ This circuit is famous in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It includes Alwar, Sariska, Deeg, Bharatpur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur. Sawai Madhopur is also covered as a stand-alone circuit for domestic tours. This circuit is located among a group of small hills of the Aravalli range. The southern and part of the circuit bordering eastern Uttar Pradesh has large areas under wetlands, locally called Oran.
⇎ Tourist arrivals to these places are highest during the winter months from October to February. The main attractions in the Brij Mewat Circuit are Sariska, Bharatpur and Ranthambore. This circuit is also popular as a weekend tourist destination for tourists coming from the region.

  08 - Hadauti Circuit (Bundi-Kota-Jhalawar)
⇎ The Hadoti Circuit comprises Bundi, Kota and Jhalawar districts. Places of tourist interest in the adjoining Baran district are also included as a part of this circuit.
⇎ The Hadoti region falls in the Haravati Plain, surrounded by the Bundi Hills and the Kota Plateau. The region has beautiful hills, valleys and lakes, which form a picturesque countryside.
⇎ The tourist season in this region runs from September to March. The main attraction of the Hadoti Circuit is the palaces of Kota and Bundi. The Hadauti Circuit also has many places of religious interest.

  09 - Shekhawati Circuit (Sikar-Mandawa-Jhunjhunu, Sikar)
⇎ राजस्थान में शेखावाटी क्षेत्र इस क्षेत्र के पूर्व धनी व्यापारियों द्वारा निर्मित भित्तिचित्र-चित्रित हवेलियों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है। शेखावाटी क्षेत्र को राजस्थान की 'ओपन आर्ट गैलरी' कहा जाता है। 
⇎ इस क्षेत्र में मंडावा, नवलगढ़, सीकर, झुंझुनू, फतेहपुर, चूरू, मुकुंदगढ़, डूंडलोद, चिड़ावा आदि जैसे कई छोटे शहर शामिल हैं, जिनमें से प्रत्येक के पास ऐसी अद्भुत, सुंदर और आश्चर्यजनक हवेलियाँ हैं। यह सर्किट राज्य में आने वाले विदेशी पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है। यह क्षेत्र दिल्ली से आने वाले और डेजर्ट सर्किट में बीकानेर की ओर जाने वाले पर्यटकों के लिए प्रवेश द्वार के रूप में भी कार्य करता है। 
⇎ इस क्षेत्र का पर्यटन सीजन सितंबर से मार्च तक होता है। राजस्थान में स्थित शेखावाटी क्षेत्र अपनी एक ऐतिहासिक गरिमा रखता है, जो अपनी कला, संस्कृति, मेहमान नवाजी और उत्कृष्ट व्यवहार के लिए विश्व विख्यात है। शेखावाटी के उद्यमियों ने अपनी व्यापारिक कला के दम पर राज सम्पूर्ण विश्व में राज किया है। 
⇎ भारत के शीर्ष 10 सर्वाधिक धनी औद्योगिक घराने मित्तल, बिड़ला, बजाज, गोयनका, पीरामल, डालमिया, वेदांता, दगानी आदि अकेले शेखावाटी अंचल से है। वर्तमान में शेखावाटी विश्व के बड़े धनी क्षेत्रों में से है जहां निर्धनता न के बराबर है।

  10 - NCR Circuit
⇎ Before 2006, there were 9 circuits. Currently there are 10 circuits, the tenth circuit is the National Capital Region Circuit, which includes:- Alwar, Siliserh, Sariska, Deeg, Dholpur (Basedi) etc.

⇎ Apart from the above circuits, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is a part of the famous Golden Triangle tourist circuit, which also includes Delhi and Agra. This circuit is popular among tourists for its rich cultural heritage and historical sites.
